HYDRAULIC ENGINEERING AND ENVIRONMENT
Course Description
  1. Field equations of real fluids: Eq. Continuity, Eq. Momentum (Navier-Stokes), Transport (Convection - diffusion), Energy (as a transport equation).
  2. The equations in a rotating reference frame. Equations of coastal hydrodynamic circulation.
  3. Wind-driven flow, tides, stratification, density currents.
  4. Hydrodynamics of bays and reservoirs.
  5. Hydrodynamics of lagoons.

Learning Outcomes:

At the end of the lesson, the student will have come into contact with:

  • The equations of the flow field of real fluids (continuity, momentum, energy equations) and transport (conduction-diffusion equations).
  • The use of equations for coastal hydrodynamic circulation.
  • The use of simple models of the components of coastal circulation (wind-driven circulation, tides, stratification, density currents).

With the successful completion of the course, the student will be able to:

  • Use flow and transport equations (conduction and diffusion).
  • Calculate the basic components of coastal hydrodynamic circulation.
  • Recognise the elements of coastal traffic in realistic numerical simulations.
