COURSES OFFERED IN TWO OR MORE FIELDS
Course Description
  1. Design of asphalt mixtures in the laboratory: Design methods (Marshall, Superpave), analysis of volumetric and mechanical properties, preparation and testing of specimens.
  2. Sustainability of pavements.
  3. Modern trends and innovations in pavement design.
  4. Design of special categories of pavements.
  5. Recycling of pavements.

Learning Outcomes

The course aims to deepen students' understanding of contemporary issues related to pavement and mixture design, with an emphasis on sustainability and the use of alternative materials. The course also includes laboratory exercises, aimed at familiarising students with the processes of characterisation and control of pavement and asphalt mix materials.

With the successful completion of the course, the student will be able to:

  • Apply basic and advanced asphalt mix design methodologies in the laboratory.
  • Evaluate the sustainability of different types of materials, including recycled and alternative materials.
  • Interpret the results of laboratory tests and quality controls on materials and pavement mixtures.
  • Select appropriate design and construction techniques for pavements based on traffic, environmental, and geotechnical conditions.
  • Connect theoretical wear models with the practical assessment of pavement lifespan.
  • Actively participates in the design of road construction projects with environmental criteria and technical documentation.
