Learning Outcomes

The course material focuses on issues of production, collection, transportation, processing, and final disposal of solid waste within the framework of environmental protection and sustainable development. The purpose of the course is to equip students with the modern methods and best practices used in the field of solid waste management.

Upon successful completion of the course, the student will be able to:

  • Explain the basic concepts and principles, as well as the terminology related to solid waste and the established processing methods.
  • Recognise the categories of solid waste, as well as their qualitative and quantitative analysis.
  • Calculate mechanical separation, composting, and thermal treatment systems, with the aim of recovering materials and energy.
  • Face problems related to the temporary storage, collection, transportation, and transfer of solid waste.
  • Spread an informed awareness regarding pollution prevention, waste volume reduction, recycling, and the reuse of materials and energy.
