Course Description
  1. Methods for diagnosing damages and their restoration in reinforced concrete structures.
  2. Assessment and strengthening of reinforced concrete structures according to the Interventions Regulation (KANEP).
  3. Evaluation of existing structures, objectives of evaluation and redesign.
  4. Investigation, documentation of the load-bearing structure of the existing building, Data Reliability Levels, safety factors.
  5. Seismic loads, elastic and inelastic analysis methods for assessment and redesign.
  6. Materials and Technologies for Interventions.
  7. Behavioural simulations of reinforced members: Mechanisms of force transfer between existing and new elements, tightening, plasticity in terms of curvatures and in terms of chord twist angles.
  8. Determination of the behaviour of structural elements before and after reinforcement: shear strength, flexural strength, stiffness, and deformation capacity of beams, columns, and walls.
  9. Intervention strategies for upgrading seismic behaviour.
  10. Methods for repairing beams and columns.
  11. Reinforcement methods: Additional layer of concrete, closed or open reinforced concrete jacket, steel cage, fiber-reinforced polymers (FRPs), construction of walls within existing frames, steel truss systems within frames, node reinforcement, foundation element reinforcement, base isolation.
  12. Numerical applications of reinforcements in structural elements under bending, shear, and deformation capacity.

Learning Outcomes

Upon successful completion of the course, the student will be able to:

  • It recognises the pathology of damage in reinforced concrete structures.
  • It applies the Intervention Regulation (KANEP) for the assessment and strengthening of reinforced concrete structures.
  • It applies the investigation and documentation tasks of the load-bearing structure of the existing building in accordance with the KANEPE.
  • It applies the objectives of assessment and redesign of structures according to the KANEPE.
  • It explains the methods of elastic and inelastic analysis for assessment and redesign.
  • He uses the appropriate surgical materials and intervention methods.
  • It calculates the shear strength, flexural strength, stiffness, and deformation capacity of beams, columns, and walls before and after reinforcement.
  • It applies the methods of repairing beams and columns.
  • It sizes structural elements according to the reinforcement method.
