Course Description
  1. Introduction: Environment and projects – concepts, historical overview, significance of impacts.
  2. Legislation: National and European institutional framework, environmental terms, public participation.
  3. Forecasting and Impact Assessment: Methodologies, risk assessment, accidents.
  4. Impact Management: Restoration, risk reduction, prevention.
  5. Life Cycle Analysis (LCA): Calculation methods, indicators, stages.
  6. Monitoring Impacts: Qualitative/quantitative evaluation, indicators.
  7. Preparation of EIA: Structure, contents, stages of study preparation.
  8. Case studies – Real projects: Solid waste, infrastructure projects, site selection.
  9. Individual Assignment: Preparation of EIA for a selected technical project.


Learning Outcomes

Upon completion of the course, students will be able to recognise the basic principles and methodologies for assessing the environmental impacts of engineering projects.

Upon successful completion of the course, the student will be able to:

  1. Recognise the environmental impacts of engineering projects and evaluates their intensity.
  2. Present the relevant national and European legislation on environmental licensing.
  3. Apply methodologies for forecasting and assessing environmental risks.
  4. Formulate alternative solutions and measure for restoration or mitigation of impacts.
  5. Systematically compose Environmental Impact Studies (EIS).
